JEOPARDY Job
So last week I got a temporary gig working as a Production Assistant for Jeopardy which is filmed on the Sony Pictures Lot in Culver City. The powers that be are looking for a long term employee to fill the job and have been giving applicants week long trials till they find a good fit. I believe that they saw a total of 4 including me.......Well last week my boss called me in and told me that they thought that I was doing a good job and so they wanted me to come in again this week. So things are looking pretty good. The name and lot experience is a great opportunity for someone in my position. Just from my impressions I think it's down to me and one other applicant. The pay is pretty good for entry level and with time comes some heath benefits and an additional pay increase. It's been a pretty cool experience, this Monday we filmed Kid's Jeopardy which was different. What I didn't realize is that Jeopardy films five shows in one day. So 2 production days a week.
Whats really cool is, now that I work on the lot I can roam just about anywhere. So at lunch I walk and see what I can. Last week I saw Adam Sandler who has a production company on the lot( his golf cart is a white escalade so you know when he's around). Yesterday I saw Kevin James as I was unloading some office supplies. I guess the big hoopla around the lot is the filming of Indiana Jones 4 which is taking up three stages which is quite something. I peaked into one and saw a huge construction of a building like four stories tall it looked pretty amazing.
So for now I'm still week to week but I'll let everyone know if I land something permanent. If any of you are die hard fans who knows maybe I'll be able to get you some free Jeopardy stuff or Alex's autograph.
I would post some pics of Jeopardy artwork with my Blog but Rachel's the mastermind behind shrinking the pics. Also I'm a duffie.

My boss just called me in and let me know that I will be held on a more permanant basis. I guess the other applicant found a more long term job which my boss said she didn't think was an issue because of how much everyone around the office liked my performance.
So now I'm still technically week to week. But that's just because it takes awhile before Sony Pictures hires you on as one of their employees. I'll be an employee of Corestaff which is an employement agency untill that happens. The last P.A. was a Corestaff employee for 4 months before he was hired on with Sony which pays abit more. So mabee in a couple of months.
But Yea! I'm employed for now.
Wow, another offspring employed! I love it. I've had a good feeling about this opportunity from the git-go. Everything you said about it sounded so Adam-like. You seemed to know the perfect way to get into peoples' minds without getting in their faces. I want it on the record now . . . when they film my life story, you'll produce it. Congrats to you and all the mentors you had along the way.
Great news Adam .. I think once you get your foot in the door you're pretty hard not to like.
Hey - I think whenever someone tells you to do something you should refuse unless they phrase their request in the form of a question.
Your Boss: "go get me a boom box for the next shoot"
You: (really loud/obnoxious like) "BZZZZzzz" .. "This is not a valid request - please rephrase in the form of a question!"
This will get you in good for sure - trust me, my social skills are crazy good.
and remember, every job is a step to the next better one. so enjoy the great days and don't mind bad ones too much.
i don't know what a 'duffie' is, but apparently it's something more than just parking alex trebek's car... tho i'll bet that could be a fun job too. ;) sounds great yo! congrats!
This sounds like a really nice opportunity, Adam. They are lucky they found you. Sometimes titrated start ups are irritating because they seem less stable - but in the long run it may be best for the employee too. That way both sides can see how things are going and what works best for all concerned. Most of all, I hope it is an environment (one of many) that your feel allows you to learn and do the things you enjoy. Have fun.
