Gov't Perks

So my friend Liz was driving around when she got pulled over by a police officer. Once pulled over he told her that he had stopped her because he saw that she had been using her cell phone in her hand and so he would have to write her a ticket. She was taken back by this because at the time she did have a hands free device in her ear and what she was doing was pushing a button on the cell phone that would in turn activate the Bluetooth.

The police officer said well that may be the case however the law strictly says hand's free and that she was in violation of this new "brilliantly executed laws". She said that she was pretty sure that the law is really not supposed to be interpreted in this way and that she was using a hand's free device which in most cases does need some kind of interaction initially with the actual phone before it would work properly.

After hearing this he asked her why exactly she thought she knew more about the law than anyone else. This is when she told him that she did in fact study law and that she is currently working for the L.A. District Attorney's office. He then asked her if she could prove that. In which, she for the first time pulled out her badge to show him, this basically ended the whole traffic stop. He said that she could be on her way and let her go without any warning or any other penalties.

I thought this was kind of cool. I also learned that I guess if you work in certain levels of the government that you can submit your license plates to a data base which essentially tells police officers who ever run your plates to leave you alone. I asked if maybe I could get on the list which of course the answer was Fat Chance! Plus, I'm not positive but they may have me on some other kind of list........ No Not That One ......... The Cool List of course!

That is totally wrong .. although, I have several colleagues that get away with the same thing. One of our clients is the New York Police Pension Fund .. and, the staff on this project get these great badges with the NY Police Pension Fund symbol which I guess every cop in NY sees on their monthly retirement report.

Anyway - the cops ALWAYS let my buddies go when they pull out the badge. Having control over someone's retirement savings is pretty good leverage! I so need that badge in CA .. was pulled over recently for speeding (80 something in a 65) .. was over $220 bucks!!

And .. yeah, I'm sure you're on several lists buddy. you've been on mine for years. that's right, i have a list and YOU my friend are on it!

i love going to family places and hearing a story many times... actually don't mind yours because you tell them in a way that is classic and always room for a big laugh... thinking about the cult post that story of yours is one of my favorites
