(this is an email I sent out recently...scroll down for the update!)
Dear Friends and Family,

I am a 1st grade teacher at a public charter
school in Inglewood, California and in today’s tough economy there are so many
things I want to get for my students but my school/state cannot provide for
me. I thought you would like to know there is now
a great way that you can help support my classroom and students. There is an awesome website called Donor’s
Choose (www.donorschoose.org) where
public school teachers post items they need for their classroom and people make
donations to help me get these items.
You can donate to part of the project or donate for the whole project,
it’s your choice and all contributions are tax-deductible. The best part is donors get to hear back from
their classrooms they choose to support with pictures and cards.

I currently have 3 project up and ready for donations (they
are listed in order of importance):

Interwrite…Inter-Right On!:
http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=271123

Project me into the Technological Future:
http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=276442

Teacher Resources for a Struggling Economy:
http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=269619

I cannot tell you what it would mean to me to have these
items in my classroom and I simply cannot keep buying things for my students
with my own money (my fiancé will not be too happy if I keep spending our money
on my classroom and for things I feel my students deserve!)

You can help me either by making donations yourself or
passing this information onto people or business who value education and want
what is best for our students.

Thank You,

Rachel Leith

UPDATE:
My proposal for the interwrite pad (an interactive tool for the classroom) was bought for me via the manufacture. I am so happy and it really lifted my spirits during a hard week. The only problem is I cannot use the interwrite pad without an LCD Projector. It is proposal ID 276442 (Project me into the Technological Future)
http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/proposal.html?id=276442

Thank You for listening to my email and helping a good cause and, as always, pass this onto people you know who can help,

Rachel Leith

So I'm sitting here working on my report cards and the parent comments (that's right...1st grade report cards) and I am losing my mind. That's when I came up with a new word that I think could go straight to Webster if he's reading this...it's Blaging. Def. to brag in blog form!! Awesome!

I would like to BLAG that at my staff meeting today my team of 1st grade teacher got major kudos from the owner of my school. What a turn around from last year when we did everything wrong to this year when we can do no wrong.

PS Just like I wanted nothing to do with Adam's blogs he wants nothing to do with this blog...you hear that Webster? When the money rolls in the check should be made out to Rachel Leith not Adam McKinney.

Stunned was all who met Bloggy as he brought something new to the old means of talking. Newspapers are sad now as no one needs them. For when Bloggy came to town the old newspapers seemed just to Froggy. Out with the old and in with the new exclaimed Bloggy Woggy! Bloggy will give us all the news without the ink, and grime but I'm sure still filled with Blues. So I got into Las Vegas on the 2nd and have begun working over at the Las Vegas Convention Center for our Jeopardy tapings at the Consumer Electronics Show. It's been pretty busy thus far, with a lot of preparation work. It is really cool to see the convention floor come to life. Sony seems to have really dominated a lot of the available space even though there are a number of other buildings that I'm sure have other BIG vendors in them as well. I was reading that with the current economy that the C.E.S. show will be smaller than in the past. There are less businesses taking up space and they expect less attendees as well. I guess in the past a lot of electronic companies showcased "bigger and better items", where as this year they will be focusing on more "green items" that use less energy consumption.

However, for us it's still a huge under taking. Jeopardy will be unveiling its 25th anniversary set which looks really "hi-tech" cool. We'll be filming three different days one of which will be our celebrity show. The filming times are pretty late as we do them after the convention actually closes to the public. So I'll probably be averaging like 15-17 hr days on those three with on average like 10-12 hrs daily for the rest of the trip.

The convention floor has no heat until the show starts on the 8th so it is extremely cold. Today I am wearing a sweatshirt, winter coat (thanks dad glad I grabbed the one you offered), and gloves to give you an idea of just how cold it is. I think in the building it's like 56 degrees so when there is downtime you really just try not to freeze.

They put us up at the Hilton Vacation Resort, which is pretty nice. It doesn't have a casino in it, which I like. Also it has a kitchenette so I went out and got groceries so I wouldn't spend too much extra cash. I'll be here till the 14th so there will be a lot of overtime, which is always a good ting. Rachel drove down yesterday just for the night to surprise me, which was nice.

Anyway, if they let us take pictures I will attempt to do so, but I think there may be a number of legal issues as the show is unveiling a lot of new items that different vendors will be releasing in the new year so who knows. Hope all is well with everyone it was nice to see all who made it to Dad's for Christmas.

So I can't tell you how much I generally despise the "general public". Humans individually I think are generally good people (Or should I say have the ability to be). But I tell you I could have a field day on all the negative, unthoughtful, truly selfish, and overall ignorant behavior that one will see when we the human species attempt to work, live, and tolerate each other. Everyone notices it in some form whether it be that individual that cuts you off on the road or that person that cuts in front of the a line. Now I'll give you the average person that may be confused or someone who may be in a new area, or even just clueless. But I guarantee you it's occurring on some level quite consciously and selfish.

Of course, now I will tell you my latest encounter with a fellow individual while at the grocery store that once again has reaffirmed my overall feeling toward "general public". Today I stopped off to get some small items at the grocery store. As I was headed up to the check out counter I noticed that the lines at all of the registers were quite long and to my excitement the 15 item or less line was moving quite well which worked great because I just had a couple of products. While I'm waiting in line an African American woman walks up behind me. She clearly had more than 15 items and probably more like 30 in a cart.

It was weird because she wasn't quite in line directly behind me but off to the side/ middle, even though still hovering behind me. She asks the clerk at our register if he can call the manager to open another line as it was really busy. I already was annoyed! Don't you think that the grocery store managers are completely aware of how busy it is and maybe how much man power they can delegate to registers at one given moment? He replied that he'd work on it, so she still waited behind me. At this point now a man who has like 6 items is standing behind her clearly wondering what she was doing as she had soooooooo many items. He asks her are you in line and she says yeah I'm in line. Then she mumbles some random comment about how she's actually buying two different sets of groceries (contributing to my already negative outlook on things) so she's not going to go wait in the lines that are too busy. He honestly looked like a 30+ rocker dude who may have just woke up. I saw him eventually gradually leave our line to another one despite the possible wait.

I'm now overly wanting to say something as it's behavior like this that once tolerated unbalances the whole reason for having things like an express check out or maybe a carpool lane, or maybe you know general social order. So now the check out man says to her as she is placing her items on the conveyor belt, maim you know this is an express check out lane. She snaps back well yes but all the other lanes are busy and there's only one other lane next to us which is also an express lane so what am I supposed to do. I had it I couldn't sit there any more and watch this cRaP.

So now I'm looking her like, "who are you"! I say to her well then what's the point of the express line. She snaps at me, "who are you" I said I'm a customer just like yourself. I'm wondering what gives you the right to butt in front of others while there are a number of other people who are patiently waiting. That's the whole reason we have things like this is so the entire system of things runs smoother and that when people like herself "butt in" or do not respect the "rule" of the system that it messes everything up for the rest of us! I tell you the check out man who also happened to be African American was def. staying clear of getting overall involved.

Especially, because now she yelling at me telling me that I better stop harassing her because she could call the cops. I said, "go ahead call the cops if that's what you feel you have to do". She said do you think if a black man was harassing a white woman like this that he wouldn't be arrested. (Which makes me so pissed; because I'm white, I now have to tip tow around the situation, meaning I can't speak up for myself just because she is black. BS!) She said don't talk to me like that are you my husband? Are you my father? NO. so don't you speak to me like that. I told her know thank god I was neither of those and that I was a customer just like her so YES. I am entitled to express my opinion. She yells at me well you better just shut your mouth because this ain't no game show.....

This I thought was funny cause I work for a game show, which is I think strange that's what went through my head initially. She tells me that she has children and she's getting off work trying to get home to them. I said, " I don't give a hoot (much worse) if you have children or what your personal issues are but that still doesn't give you the right to get any special treatment just because you have a loud mouth. Everyone else around her has the same or more different but equally important situations; I just don't see the merit or justification.

Then .. I'm loving this ... I hear her say, no wonder you're not married! Thinking she's looking at my finger which is weird. I say that's pretty ignorant to make an assumption because I'm not wearing a wedding ring that must mean I'm not married. She says well we know why that ain't happening. I kind of just began to laugh at this point. The cashier was really nervous, justified; he was bumbling with my order probably just wanting to be done with the encounter. So in the end I paid while she was muttering stuff under her breath but loud enough for me to hear it. I actually just kind of kept laughing which believe me I'm sure bothered her more.

I was surprised that the cashier didn't call her out but who knows how everyone handles that kind of situation. It made me remember working retail, and in the food serving industry, and how much I hated it. I know I'm a weird-o in many aspects. But I honestly think everyone has there idea of what's right and wrong, what's acceptable and not ....................... I might be batman ....................... probably not.

So my friend Liz was driving around when she got pulled over by a police officer. Once pulled over he told her that he had stopped her because he saw that she had been using her cell phone in her hand and so he would have to write her a ticket. She was taken back by this because at the time she did have a hands free device in her ear and what she was doing was pushing a button on the cell phone that would in turn activate the Bluetooth.

The police officer said well that may be the case however the law strictly says hand's free and that she was in violation of this new "brilliantly executed laws". She said that she was pretty sure that the law is really not supposed to be interpreted in this way and that she was using a hand's free device which in most cases does need some kind of interaction initially with the actual phone before it would work properly.

After hearing this he asked her why exactly she thought she knew more about the law than anyone else. This is when she told him that she did in fact study law and that she is currently working for the L.A. District Attorney's office. He then asked her if she could prove that. In which, she for the first time pulled out her badge to show him, this basically ended the whole traffic stop. He said that she could be on her way and let her go without any warning or any other penalties.

I thought this was kind of cool. I also learned that I guess if you work in certain levels of the government that you can submit your license plates to a data base which essentially tells police officers who ever run your plates to leave you alone. I asked if maybe I could get on the list which of course the answer was Fat Chance! Plus, I'm not positive but they may have me on some other kind of list........ No Not That One ......... The Cool List of course!

So a couple of months ago, now that the company is involving me much more into the post-production world as well as with production, I got familiar with the term Degaussing.

Basically what this means is to electronically wipe all information/footage on tapes that we film on so they are blank and can be used again. People generally refer to tape stock as fairly cheap. But I think that’s because these people are usually individuals who have huge expenses related to production so in comparison yeah tape is cheap. However, I think the tapes I took over to degauss ran around $36 a tape, and I believe no Joke I probably have erased easily over 150 to 200 over the past couple of months. So in my mind that equals big bucks saved, as a tape can usually be used up to three times before it is deemed not worthy.

The process is extremely simple and not to mention really mind dubbing but I was glad to be exposed as I really never knew that film and tape stock could even be reused. Basically the process involves a large machine which I believe was built in the 60's as the technology hasn't much changed for this particular process. It has a conveyor belt that you place the tapes on in which it runs them through the machine. Just to make sure it works it's best to run each tape through at least 2 times and in some case three if it's a large one. You have to be careful not to wear any electronic devices on you as there is a good chance they will never work again. As well as you need to make sure you don't put any of your hands into the machine or chances are they won’t work either. So fun, exciting, not really, but always good to learn new things.

Ohh also, the hardest part which I couldn't believe I didn't mention is taking off the old labels that are on each tape. You have to use some serious chemicals to get everything off which can take a bit of time not to mention really messy!

So it's been really busy over here at good old Jeopardy and WOF. WOF went on location to Hawaii which is a really big deal. In doing so they left me here at Sony to manage our Post-Production studio which I have been asked to do in the past. It's a pretty crazy high paced job making sure everything gets to closed captioning and to the networks in time so that the shows can make their air dates. You work pretty closely with our NY offices who handle ad/sales making sure that we have promos to air for commercials. Since it's Jeopardy that means that allot of the promo spots are medically driven (Gold Bond , Lanacane, Head On), being that our audience/viewers are a bit older than the average shows. I really enjoyed this experience and opportunity as it gives me a chance to show my bosses and the shows producers that I can do just about anything when given the chance.

I have really been taking advantage of our gym facility here on the Sony lot. It's free for employees and I have been going over there during my lunch break which is awesome b/c I think like most people I have a paid lunch. So getting paid to accomplish something for myself is always a good thing. I've probably been averaging like 3 to 4 days a week, about an hour and half each workout. I've really enjoyed this new bicycle that is hooked up to some sort of networking system. It has an 8-10" LCD screen that acts like a sort of video game experience. It shows a bike rider which you control and offers a variety of difficulty levels with different scenic rides.

One of the really cool things that it can do is link up to other bikes, just like it, that may be in the gym so you can challenge and ride with friends, or just other people in the gym that you may want to challenge. I think I just reached my 11/2 marathon mark, which of course has been accomplished over some bit of time. But the fact that it remembers all my progress I think is really cool. I have been trying to mix it up with the cardio machines so I don’t overdo or get bored with any particular machine.

Not really trying to lose weight or anything I just have found that it makes me a much happier person. Not to mention I don’t really want to change the way I eat or live life so I figure you got to make up for that stuff somehow. You know like eating 4 cookies every night for 2 weeks straight because the stork left about 80 on my door step or so it felt like.

Anyway no real big news to report. Rachel is back at work and she likes her new class. Work is going well for me; Jeopardy is planning to be the showcase event at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. So I’ll be there I think from Jan 2nd to the 14th, which I’m looking forward to. Wedding stuff is happening very slowly but it’s coming along. Soon enough you’ll have our save the dates. So be eagerly waiting! Hope all is well.

So it's been awhile since I've posted. Sorry kinda got wrapped up in life as we all know can happen. Been having some trouble with my PC which is infected with some viruses so I don't get online to much at home unless to play a game which I haven't done in awhile as well. But I guess I do have quite a bit of news even though, yes..... Brian I do know that of course what kind of cereal I had this morning is Blogable news.

The BIG news would be my promotion. At the beginning of this month we had our annual evaluation in which they finally made me the official Production Coordinator for Jeopardy! I was really excited, so now at least once this season begins showing on T.V. which wont be for a couple of months you can catch your truly in the credits. Where as I think on the current shows that are playing I'm listed as Office Staff. Even though my name wont show at all unless the long credits roll which usually only happens when the shows are running short which doesn't happen often. So still sometimes tough to catch me but you know it's official cause I finally got some business cards so thats cool.

We've moved as well which has been amazingly awesome. My commute went from and hour plus to now a guaranteed 10 plus minutes which in California you can't beat. I think the Sony lot is only like 3 miles from our new place. The place was built in the 70's so def. older than our last but in comparison the place is bigger, cheaper and much cooler weather wise(like 10 degrees). This has done wonders for my moral as well as anxiety levels. We have a large balcony so I didn't have to get rid of my BBQ which I was happy about. So we've been grilling a lot and swimming which is great because the complex is smaller than the last we can actually get some pool time which was difficult due to so many people at the last place.

Earthquake 5.4 hit yesterday. Shook L.A. pretty good, think it lasted like 15 seconds for most around my area which is a trip considering at epicenter it only lasted for like 4 seconds. But with the ripple effect we endured it a bit longer. Also, it occurred about 6-7 miles under ground which is really shallow when compared to most. Not to much damage over all, think the worst was some old buildings in some older communities lost some brick and I guess LAX had a water heater leak which cause the United terminal to close temporarily.

But just like the media to make a bigger deal than the issue really was, I think I saw this one clip from the same grocery store where some cereal boxes fell and ohhhh my gosh I think some milk jars may have broken too (WOW).They went down the line from fire chief to police chief to a number of other chiefs just letting the public know that no real news was happening. A good wake up call though considering were bound to get the BIG one soon which they say will cause more damage and deaths than ever. Plus with what we saw from our "wonderful" government response and relief organizations in recent tragedy's I think I better pack up a survival kit. I actually kinda want to buy one of those portable generators, there so cool.

So thats the news for now. I'm sure I could tell you a number of interesting Adam like stories and adventures but I figure I better save this blog for my re-introduction back into the site. Also, we've been doing a number of wedding planning so expect some information as we hammer it all out.

So this last weekend Rachel and I took a trip to Vegas. We were celebrating our 7th anniversary as well as her B-day. It was really good times. We decided to drive which for us is not that far. I was flying on the freeways so I think I made it there in under 4 hours which is really good.

When we've gone in the past we've enjoyed staying at Mandalay Bay Hotel which I highly recommend. Rachel doesn't like the theme hotels (Ceasers/Circus/Luxor) which I don't blame her. They have a wide variety of pools one being a wave pool which is the only one of its kind in Vegas. So we rolled in and I guess because of capacity issues they moved us to Mandalay Bay's 2nd Hotel called THE hotel. To my surprise it was very different and I think a bit more elegant. We got a huge room with a Jacuzzi tub and a huge flat screen TV. It was on the 25th floor so it overlooked a good portion of the city. I like the T.V. situation in this specific hotel because they have a huge shark reef downstairs which you can tune into on one of the TV channels. With my love for aquariums you can just guess that all three TVs including the bathrooms were tuned to this 24/7.

The two major things we did when we were there minus drinking, was ..

(1) Danced it up all night at a club in The Stratosphere: it had 3 separate huge rooms with three different time genres represented in each one. 70's, 80's, and NOW. It was awesome, even though it being three different time genres my dancing stayed the same. (Hip thrust 1, Hip thrust 2, with an occasional right and left swaying motion to really change it up. )

(2) We were able to get discounted tickets to The Beatles Cirque De Soleil show LOVE. I highly recommended it they were able to really merge the songs with one another while keeping the show moving forward. Sad to return but there is always been something with Vegas for me, I love getting there but usually I am just as excited to leave. Can not imagine living there being that it is one of the fastest growing areas in the U.S.

So thanks for not banning me. I know I def. deserve it. So after 8 months, I have officially become a full time Sony Pictures employee. Yeah! Like all companies do, I'm starting out pretty low on the totem pole. I also will have an opportunity to be up for an annual evaluation in three months in which I will be able to discuss a raise in pay as well as possibly a better job title. But it's a step in the right direction. I finally have insurance as well which is great. So you can look for me in the long crawl (that's industry talk for the credits)- Rachel hates it when I use industry lingo-. I'll probably be a long ways down, but I should be listed soon enough. So now when anyone comes to visit Cali I’ll be able to give personal Sony Lot and Jeopardy stage tours.
