a view to die for
Take a look at this bathroom .. a good look.

Things to note:
1. Best View Ever .. Photo does not give it justice; the view looks out onto a pristine bay on a northern Scottish island. Simply Stunning. Just out of view, and visible while in the tub are the remnants of a 9th century castle.
2. There is toilet grime pretty much everywhere ... even on the wall above the toilet. I found this disturbing.
3. There is a solid substance on the back rim of the toilet ... it looked fresh. I found this disgusting.
4. The toilet flusher is in the up (broken) position ... telling me the toilet is broken and/or does not get flushed.
5. There is a used squeegee on top of the toilet. I found this odd.
6. Now here is the kicker. Look at the pinkish item on the edge of the bathtub. Take a good look .. now .. take a look at this … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dentures … yeah .. that pink item is a pair of dentures .. in person you could see a little dried blood on the gum line.
I was in this bathroom - alone with a man I knew all of 30 seconds ... it was his bathroom, in his house, he led me here ... I was alone, I was very alone. How did this happen you ask?!? .. good question.
Matt and I were driving the rural roads of Scotland when we spotted the remnants of an old castle ... despite the no trespassing signs on the only road to the castle we proceeded down the dirt road ... a road that led to a very old house (think shack), the road did not lead anywhere else.
We could see the castle was a short walk but had to park by this house if we wanted access. Out comes an old Scottish mate (Ned) with his 3 dogs. I opted for the direct approach and just told him we were tourists who wanted to get a look at the castle. He said fine, he would look after our car and we could walk through his land. So, Matt/I took him up on the offer and headed off ... we both confided that we were a little hesitant about leaving the car so wanted to make it quick.
When we got back Ned asked if we would come inside for a minute. Matt and I both looked at each other hoping the other would think of a good reason to decline but before we knew it he was leading us into his home. He said to both of us ... let me show you my bathroom .. I thought I must have misheard. I turned around to look at Matt and to my utter dismay Matt had started up the stairs of this house ... heading for the bedroom? .. I have no idea .. I just know one second he was behind me and the next he was upstairs. I kid you not.
Seeing we were alone, Ned put one arm around me and said, the view from my bathroom is unbelievable, you just have to see it .. before I knew it I was in the bathroom .. wondering if this is the last place I would ever be, wondering how Matt could leave me alone, alone with this man .. in his bathroom .. while he is upstairs doing .. to this day do not know what he was doing.
Then .. I saw the view .. the view from the toilet. Ned explained how he could take a leak and look out upon a view to die for ... and ... he was right. It was a view to die for, I was ready. My only hope was Ned would make it quick and take his time with Matt.
Photos of the castle that led us to Ned (who turned out to be a decent guy) ..

Dear Bryan- What a good Scottish lad ye are, and thanks for sharing my beautiful view with your clan. But please return my dentures when you are done with them. Cheers, Ned.
Sometimes I am adventurous, but traveling with you could be scary & wierd. Are you calling that pile of rocks a castle?
Based on your blogs, I'm glad the first crop of weeds in your garden has been a good one, because you are clearly in la-la land.
If that is really you Ned? .. can you tell us what you did with Matt after i left? Did it really take 2 hours to show him the bathroom as well? Matt didn't want to talk about it with me, in fact it was a good week before Matt said anything to anyone.
wow. fantastic story with some near fantastic images of what could be a castle, yes. or, possibly, a 'castle' that ned built to entice passer-byers to stop and photograph. the world may never know.
with that said, i truly disagree and say this is one of the best traveling stories i've heard in quite some time.. and do wish i was there.
oh and matt, something about you (or your actions, rather) is very curious.
