I've read a ton of hype about Jake Christensen .. the starting QB for the Hawkeyes this year. If he lives up to the hype, and can find support behind him, we could have a decent year.
Current Vegas favorites to win the BCS:
USC 5-3, Florida 8-1, LSU 8-1, Michigan 8-1, West Virginia 8-1, Tennessee 45-1, Iowa 100-1
Iowa vs Iowa State Line: Iowa by 14
Iowa State must be really bad this year - they are only given 500-1 odds to win the Big12 - with the exception of Baylor who is also listed at 500-1 they are by far the longest odds. This, and my unbiased love for the hawkeyes makes the 14 point spread with Iowa State attractive.

Republican Nomination: Rudy 6-5, Thompson 2-1, McCain 2-1, Romney 7-2

Party to win the Presidency: Dem: 5-8, Rep: 7-5
So - $100 on the democrats to win the White House wins $62.50 while a $100 wager on the republicans wins $140. Im sure someone in the health insurance racket is making a hedge with a bet on the democrats.

The best news for Ferentz & Company is that the schedule does not include Ohio State or Michigan. Sounds like opportunity knocking. My reliable Football Playbook says: "odds to win BCS title: +6000" Come on . . . does that really mean 6000 to one? That doesn't even sound like a real number. I am putting games together now for my first parlay on Sept. 1st.
Just back from DC, where political T-shirts all the rage. Two that were prominent: 1) Bill Clinton for First Lady; 2) 01/20/09 - Bush's Last Day.
Hmmmm. I'd consider putting no more than $10 on Iowa to win it all.... $500 on Iowa over Iowa State..... and $1M on Clinton to lose unless Bill is co-pres.
