shakespeare festival
Shannon/I saw 'The Taming of the Shrew' at a great venue on the shores of Lake Tahoe last night. It's been a long time since I've read Shakespeare - High School i think, and i must admit I don't remember enjoying it much at the time but we both really enjoyed the show. The plays are performed as Shakespeare wrote them - with some contemporary humor thrown in. The show starts at sunset making for an unbelievably scenic backdrop. The audience is seated upon a hill overlooking the stage - most people bring a blanket to sit on, wine, and food. Really makes for a great night.
If you saw '10 Things I Hate About You' (1999 with Heath Ledger/Julia Stiles), that movie was loosely based on Shakespeare's 'Shrew'. Yeah, i admit it, i saw it (wasn't bad really).
This morning I stayed around Tahoe to run in a half marathon - was hilly and at elevation (6700 feet). I ended up having a decent run and won the race - this is due mostly to a lack of competition since the hills really slowed me. Matt - I'm sure if you had made it up for this run you would have taken the top spot since it was much more suited to your mountain goat running skills.

Winning a race wow seems like your doing more of that lately good job
Beautiful looking site, sounds fun. I keep trying to get into Shakespeare's writing, but I still have trouble connecting. These shows where the language is backed up by a performance help me a lot; eventually the "olde" "thous" and "forsouths" seem a bit more accessible in that context. He sure hit on some timeless themes....
That venue looks like it would be great place to see a live performance. If following the Shakespearean language gets to be a bit much during the show - you always have the scenery.
Congrats on the race. Did you feel the effects of the altitude much?
Kris - The altitude seemed to have a big impact at the start - like the first couple of miles. After that I seemed to adjust OK and didn't really notice a huge difference. I was winded but it's hard to say if it was from the hills or the altitude. When I worked in New Mexico (Santa Fe) I ran a bit so perhaps i got acclimated - although that was a while back and I doubt the acclimation would last this long.
Did you ever get to the Bowl while in LA? Same concept but the scenery there looks fantastic. Never been to Tahoe. congrats on the race. Mom
Yeah - we saw Tracy Chapman perform at the Bowl in LA .. you're right, very similar feeling. There is something about seeing a night performance outdoors that makes it more special.
looks fantastic! even more cool? your pictures line up so the tree from the bottom one appears to be continued in the top one.
