well .. that was indeed interesting. I went through mile 1 at 6.10, hit the half marathon mark at 1.28 (open half PR), and ended up as a big fat DNF (did not finish). I simply bonked. All miles up to mile 15 were under 6.50 mins ... mile 16 was 11 minutes, 17 was 13 mins .. mile 18 i turned off my watch, mile 26 i saw shannon and our rental car and crawled into the backseat. i would have hit 4.20 or something .. so .. 1.30'ish for the first half and 3 hours for the second half .. i so do not rock.
I don't think I'll be attempting a marathon again. Running a marathon is nothing like running a half marathon .. unless .. if while running the half marathon some troll jumped out at you at every mile and hacked at your quads/calves with a hammer, every 3 miles took a board out and swung at your knees, every 5 miles jumped on your back and kicked your hips with steel plated army boots, and at mile 13 pulled a big black cloak over you to squash your spirit/soul. good fun!

Considering that a mile (that's right 1 measly mile)is a struggle for me I'd say you did a good job. Has it been a long time since you've run a full marathon?
I'm struggling with my work out, now that I'm a working bee(boo but yea). It's so hard to even motivate myself once I get home after driving in L.A. traffic. I loved my noon to late afternoon work out but that is a luxury of the past. It's not just the lack of time, but I found that as I work it's way to easy to snack. The office is filled with all kinds of treats which I find myself constantly pursuaded by.
Steven you would be proud of me I took your advice and wen't to bed an hour earlier and forced myself to get up at 5:40am this morning to work out. Now I just need to keep up with it tom. morning.
I'm also pretty terrified of your troll suggestion. These must of been some of the images you had in your head as your body began to break down as the marathon intensified. It made me think of Scion's new ad campian with the scary monsters that run around chopping up the sheep people. It's pretty demonic not to mention bizarre.
I think your did pretty well, Brian, considering history. Didn't Pheidippides run this race, announce "Niki!" ("victory"), and then collapse and die?

PS- Adam, I commiserate with your commute (which probably makes mine look easy). Not only do evening commutes take away work-out time, one tends to get home frazzled from dodging traffic en route. Then, add in the latest (generally bad) news on the radio, and you need a stiff drink when you hit the door. Good luck pursuing Zen (or whatever we seek) where and how you can. I think that finding the right balance ends up being part of the fun (or maybe that's just my effort to rationalize things).
