bird release
Shannon and I released some birds on Saturday at McClure's Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore. Was a great day and it was pretty cool to release the birds back into the wild. Two of the three left without saying goodbye (a good thing) - but one, the one you see that shannon is watching ended up just looking out into the ocean for a bit before heading in. We were a little concerned since the water was pretty rough but after a few rolls it seemed to gain confidence and was soon out of sight.
After the release we went for a hike into the hills - really beautiful country. We came across a herd of elk along the trail - and, crossed paths with a skunk (didn't stick around for a photo of that).

always an adventure with you two
Wow - looks fantastic there! (View Google map) City life is awesome, but we definitely need to be making more trips out - miss the wilderness.
That has got to be a great feeling seeing the birds jump back into the wild.
Sweet looking place. Nice herd of elk and the "driftwood tree" sweet picture. When I first looked at that picture I thought Brian was standing amongst a flock of birds taking off.
Breathtaking. Beautiful area, and what an inspiring sight to see successful return to the wild.
I gotta wonder if there is some avian version of alien abduction tales ("there was this one creature who took care of us who put applessauce on pizza!").
Nice Google map link, too, Craig. A link from took me to the National Parks Service page, where the archived webcam views suggest Saturday gave some sparkling sun among several cloudy mornings. Can we see you two in this view (Aug 2 1000PST)?

It sounds like this Elk species was almost extinct not so long ago. Hopefully they can repopulate even more.
What's better..an accomplishment such as this or the beautiful location? Answer...the opportunity to have both activity and location!
Nice work Shannon!
Wondering how the ducks are doing at home?
Always enjoys your phoos....that driftwood s amazing or is it still growing..just weathered?
