pet birds

Some recent snaps of our (indoor) pet birds ...

From the top .. Pearl, Lola, Hank (yellow cheeks), porky

They all have very distinct personalities which is pretty cool.

Pearl: Very timid, sweet bird. doesn't fly well - great whistler when she is happy. Pearl is one of the smallest cockatiel's Shannon's ever seen. best bird ever

Lola: Male Indian Ringneck Parakeet .. he's very agro .. well, not really but he can be very loud. He seems to flirt with the other birds .. to no avail, they show no interest at all. He makes pretty cool noises though .. just recently we discovered Lola was a boy .. he just got the blue'ish ring around his neck (females don't get that)

Hank: Pretty anti social male cockatiel. Enjoys air kisses and looking at himself in the mirror all day. He'll sing to himself .. not much interest in anyone else.

Porky: Very social cockatiel - will always sit on Shannon or I. Eats whatever we eat .. often jumping right into our food and digging in. strange one - also hates going to bed, we'll have to trick her into going to bed or end up chasing her around the room for 20 minutes.

Really .. all pretty cool pets. I know when I'm out of town it's nice for Shannon to have the company. Oddly though, when I'm home she still just talks to them .. unless .. i whistle

I have seen these birds and yes the middle one, the big green bird of terror. Very scared bird and stays away from us and will face dive from her cage to the ground if we get close to her cage.

One of the birds, I'm not sure which one - always flies to me when I am there, she is nice and sweet so I always let her chew on my tassels from my sweatshirt hoody.

s: The green bird of terror now flies. You're right it used to dive bomb to the ground when you approach the cage but that was partially due to the fact that he could not fly. Now his wings are grown in and instead of diving for the ground (falling) he simply chirps at you loudly and flies around.

The bird that always flies to you is Porky. The bird on the right of the last photo. She does seem to like it when you visit

Claire says, "I love the birds, and they have very interesting personalities - you are right".

Riley says, " I'd like to be the bird that ate off your plate."

Jeff says, "Are birds like dogs, in that certain breeds have classic personalities? Or do differences among birds of the same type count more?"

J: Certain breeds do have classic personalities .. but, there does seem to be a wide range of personalities per breed as well.

All of our cockatiel's have very distinct personalities. I'd say more so than what I've seen in dogs.

R: you are not invited to dinner

Love the bird pictures. They are all pretty cool in their own way. I did see Porky having to be put to bed. It looked like a not so fun game. Reminds me of when Frosty would get loose and Steven or I would have to chase him. He was so wild we usually could only get to him when he stopped to go to the bathroom. Sometimes he would slow down just to make sure we were still chasing him. What a punk!

Maybe Charlie, Doug and I should come visit? :)
