goals

I've been in a rut lately -- I just don't care about anything. i don't care what i eat, i don't care how late i stay up, i don't care that i can't touch my toes, i don't care that I'm sitting here watching American Idol (yes - i have a remote ... too much work to push the button). I just don't care.

So .. I decided I need to get out of this rut .. to start caring about things again ... I needed to set a goal. Not a life changing big goal (something that I would start to do with good intentions only to quit after a few weeks). I needed a goal that was attainable. A goal that any monkey could accomplish. I thought long and hard about what my goal should be. What I could see through to the end .. after a couple days I landed on the perfect short term goal. A goal that took some dedication but was attainable with a little effort.

My Goal:
Stay in bed for more than 12 hours.

Preparation:
1. Stay up late for 2 straight nights
2. Don't drink for a few hours before bedtime (getting up to go to the bathroom would mean fail)
3. Unplug all phones in the apartment (I'm in boston for this goal which helps)
4. Ensure my bedroom is deprived of any light by putting a blanket next to the bottom of the door, throwing a towel over the digital clock, and putting tape over the blinking smoke detector.
5. Buy ear plugs to deprive me of noise
6. Go to bed early - 9PM
7. Put tacks on the ground by the bed so if I woke up and forgot the goal in a half asleep state I'd remember when my toes were bleeding
8. Empty bottle by the bed .. just in case the no drinking a few hours before bed didn't prevent, well you know

I'm pleased to report I did not open the door of my bedroom until 10.12 this morning. Breaking my goal by a good hour. My neck is a little sore but other than that I feel revived and ready to make a new goal, perhaps even a bigger goal for tomorrow, Who knows .. I may take out the trash or something.

I think I have you beat I went to bed last night at 11 or so and woke up at 1

so maybe were even... I was quite stressed with my current post you can read why
