This place looks fabulous. Is that a perigrine falcon looking down from the tree? It used to be endangered, right?

This place looks very nice. Wish I could have been there for it.

Great eye Jeff .. Yeah .. that's the Peregrine Falcon. DDT (pesticide) use nearly killed it off in the 60s/70s .. causing thinner eggs shells/fewer births. This bird used to have a large 'home' .. eastern USA, parts of Europe .. places the bird is now not found.

Due to the reduction of DDT (and other reasons) the falcon was removed from the endangered list in 1999.

Awesome bird up close .. I've handled on before helping Shannon

Remarkable story, and cause for hope that the DDT could wash out of the system before we drove the prigrines to extinction. Holding one must be amazing. Does Shannon know if they took a hit in terms of loss of genetic diversity because their numbers got so low?

I was reading what it takes to make a wetland on the reserve's website; starting with CCC work, maintained with serial burns and water management. Not something that "just happens". Glad someone knows what they are doing.

Fabulous photos and blog. Gives me some vicarious adventure in my life. Thanks.

It'd be fun to camp here, if it could be done with a safe footprint....

Really awesome photos! Would be great computer desktop backgrounds. :)

How far is this from you guys? Can you just drive through the whole area?

I agree with Jeff, camping here would be very cool - if you could pull it off without disrupting the area.
