we're off to see the wizard...

Farmers' Market

We went to the Dallas Farmers' Market with some friends here.
It was great.

They have produce directly from the farmers who grow it.

Remember, do NOT squeeze the peaches!

This stand with corn was fabulous. It is fresh corn, with butter and parmesean cheese, served warm in a foil wrap.

I have been visiting Heather and Kris, helping clean Heather's fabulous Art supply room. The District missed so many snow days this year they had to extend the school year. Unfortunately, that included Sat of Memorial Day weekend so while Heather spend hr last dAY OF TEACHING THAT DAY, KRIS AND I WENT TO A FARMEER'S MARKET IN A NEAR BY SMALL COMMUNITY.

It was much smaller that what your showing but beautiful vegs as well as cheezes (Chocolate goat cheeze!) and homemade natural peanutbutter with flax (?)

Anyway, enjoy your summer. Wish we could see you July 10th but know the demands of new jobs, kids summer activities etc.
Enjoy all your posts

I love peanut butter but I do not know about flax. Is it good?

The peanut butter has a different texture than "SKIPPY". It is more liquid...not so solid. Also the color is different...instead og a brown it has more yellowish tones.

I am not even sure what flax is but it looks like little seeds sort of.Kris isn't home yet so I can't find out the real scoop on it. Maybe you can find it in a cookbook.

How is your summer going? I see the temperatures have been really HOT! Bet you have been using your pool?

Did you get tired of playing Solitaire?

We leave for Venice, Italy July 17 where I will be doing the face painting...keep your fingers crossed that people will like what I do.

One of Shannon/I's favorite weekend activity is to go to the farmers market here .. always inspires us to eat healthy. That corn looks soooo good!!

This market looks huge!

Mmm, corn. I can't get enough fresh grilled corn - luckily we live next to a nice (but much smaller) farmers market where I can find some delicious corn every Saturday.

PS, Kris and Heather brought me some of that Peanut Butter too and it is really great and very unique. I basically ate the entire container with a spoon, so I can't tell you how it tasted as a sandwich.

We've been experimenting with different ways to cook fresh corn.

Latest attempt is elote (?): Mexican Roasted Corn.

The Homesick Texan blog explains better than I - attractive and accessible design, nice background story, engaging low key humor, good recipies.

Her Mexican Roasted Corn section is good. As a Texan in New York, she even mentions NYC neighborhoods for this treat by name.
