flowering vine

my neighbor planted a vine on his side of the fence that (quickly!) took off and spread over to our side. it has these fantastic flowers that almost look too perfect to be real, so i had to snap some pics for everyone to see - the buds even look prehistoric. i did a little searching and found that's its called a passion flower and can be used (unclear if it was referring to the flower or the leaves) as a sleep aid. the only downside i see is that it does die off with winter. not so ideal, for a vine, i'd say. i suppose we'll see if it comes back in the spring.

Those are awesome. I'm all about the prehistoric looking plants. How long did the plant take to spread and bloom? I've always pictured my future house coverd in vines. When it dies off in the winter, does the whole vine dry up or just the buds? I would of never expected to see such an amazing bloom from a vine. I'm used to seeing that generic green vines that are spread throughout southern cali. Remember those vines that grew all over mom's place in Cali. Then when we chopped them down the fence came down with it.

Beautiful flowers, Craig. If you send us seeds/clippings, will it take over our house?

ha! it does have a resemblance to AudryII!

Dear Uncle Craig,

I like the flowers.

thanks claire, although i can't really take credit for them. :) sadly, they don't seem to last too long either.
