late night ramblings from Brooklyn

The Newest McKinney

There's a new addition to the McKinney family--yesterday we welcomed Charlie's new little brother, Douglas G. McKinney, home. There was a little tension initially, Charlie is pretty unsure about this weird & energetic little thing we brought home, but they're warming to each other already and we hope they'll be good buddies very soon. Here are some pictures of little Doug, he's alternately running around exploring every nook in our apartment, and napping contentedly.

Wow! It is a good thing you guys are getting married soon. I mean it's one thing for Grace to be a step mother but you took it to a new level having the second "child". Congrats! is the name linked to Brian Douglas McKinney by any chance?

Ha! Well, Brian can think so.. but really we just thought "Doug" was a great name for a cat. Jake was a close second, then it could have been 'Jake and the fat cat' - but we thought Charlie might get a little too offended. Gotta keep big man on campus happy.

Are those really blue eyes on a black cat? I think that gets you the keys to the Egyptian Empire, or something very major, doesn't it? He can be pharoah (or Jr. pharoah, sorry Charlie) of Brooklyn.

It's the strangest thing, I know! The blue eyes only seem to pop up when we snap his photo - normally they are just a standard cat's eyes.

i want a cat

In photos of animals, there is no such thing as "red eye" (only in humans), but they frequently have white, blue or purple eyes when caught just right by the camera lens. People often ask me to fix their animal photos with "wierd" eyes, but my equipment can only work on human red eyes. More strange trivia .

This cat is way cute! Bandit, Anna's cat, has learned to like the outdoors. Maybe he has sheep herding ability. He even went out when it snowed the other day! It was 21 degrees....ok so I reaize it has been especially cold in both NY and St Louis....but Ca since I have been gone has been in 70-80's. But seeing snow was fun and it did not really accumulate or stick long. How is the relationship working between Doug and Charlie? If I were Doug and that small, I would be living in FEAR:(
