Cell phone numbers go public this month. All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive calls. You will be charged for these calls. To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the national do not call list. It blocks your number for five years. You MUST call from the cell phone number you want blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

The site sounded official and FTC seems to have corresponding sites on line. Yet a scam site would sound official, too - right?
One scam last year came via official sounding calls from lawyers about a "legal issue" that I think was really a phishing effort. When I asked what the guy's address was, and color of his building he started to falter. Local Chamber of Commerce in that town seemed personally insulted someone would spoil their town's good name and cased out the place that afternoon, with a thank you the next day.
