Mountain Do Challenge

Almost a month ago I did the Mountain Do Challenge. It is a triathlon but this year the canoe/kayak portion of the race was cancelled because the lake is being redrudged. So, they just doubled up the bike portion of the race. Since we live in a mountainous area, the bike race was a mountain bike race and the course was well, you guessed it, hilly. The run was a 10K and the Bike was a 20K. I was pretty happy with the run (46:03) especially with the hilly terrain and the temperature spike (that day hit mid 80's), but I did learn a few things when it came to the bike portion of the race. I'll summarize:

A.) Have a good bike
B.) Have a Camelbak (especially when the race doesn't really provide fluids unless you count bottles of hot water in the back of a truck)
C.) It would also be helpful to actually bike some prior to the race

Overall, it was fun and has got me looking at mountain bikes. At least something better than my 1993 bike I rode all over Iowa City. The technology in bikes is a just a bit better now.

That's awesome that u got up to doing that. I myself have decided to try and do the gym everyday I can instead of every other day I am planning on going everyday. I love working out and love seeing body improvements. I bike about 2 miles then workout then bike 2 miles home. It's a good workout. After I get comfortable with this I may take up running. Santa Monica is just to beautiful not take up running on ocean ave.

K: very impressive! .. 46min on the 10K tells me you're in better shape today than you were when we ran that 5K together. For a hilly course/hot day that's way good.

I'm thinking about coming down to run this .. what do you think? You game?

If you really start to get into Mountain Biking and are up for a challenge check these guys out:

I'd be game to join you (and maybe others?) on a weekend Mtn Bike trip (they are tough)

The Bays Mountain Run - I'm down with V100 (Craig would get that joke).

The mountain bike thing looks sweet - I think first, I need to purchase a bike and then we'll talk.

I just bought a 12 pac of mtn Dew... its wonderful

This sounds like an excellent day. Even beater bikes seem better than I remember them, and the forces that bikes are engineered to withstand now really impress me.

Perhaps the same should be said of you (withstanding forces) after your recent showing. Great job, man.

You deserve as good a photographer as Brian's adventures, however... when you snag your first sponsorship (a tax decuctable business expense perhaps?), demand a media support team.

I AM down with V100.

Too bad the cut the kayak portion, but awesome job still. It's funny how biking used to be so easy - with my recent riding I find it to be more challenging then I remember... though I suppose I now consider breaking something before I hop a curb.

Steven, Mountain Dew IS wonderful - as long as you brush your teeth immediately following, that's some teeth decaying soda.
