multiple photo module

The new multiple photo flash module is here! There are still some extra steps you'll have to take in order to use it - and in no way is it required or anything - but it is easier to implement then the first css/code version we were using. I'll go through some instructions on how to drop the images into the module and set the module into your post using and example from Heather's blog titled Ceramic Projects.

-- EXAMPLE MODULE WITH PHOTOS LOADED ------------------------------------------

-- STEP 1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- Name your photos something unique that goes with this specific blog, so you won't later overwrite these images (for example if you were to call your first image "image1.jpg" on every blog).
-- Please note, while naming photos that generally spaces are a bad thing.. so instead of naming your photo "craig is so rad.jpg" try adding underscores or dashes in place of those spaces like this: "craig_is_so_rad.jpg".
-- After you have finished naming your files, make note (write them down) exactly what they are called.

-- STEP 2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- Open up a text editor (notepad, microsoft word, or whatever) and start a new document.
-- Type out the following text (in full) into the document. The items in yellow are what we will be editing, but lets get them all in the document first.

-- Now save this document as a "text" file (should result in a '.txt' formatted document) and title it the same as you will be titling your blog. Again please avoid using spaces in your name sequence. For example, the text file with Heather's 'Ceramic Projects' blog is named "Ceramic_Projects.txt".
-- Now it is time to edit the items in highlighted in yellow in the above image.
-- First, change the value of "7" to the total number of images you will be displaying (current max allowed is 20 images per blog).
-- Next, change every instance of Heather's name "heather_hartz" to your own name. You must use an underscore in this field instead of a space. For example, mine would be "craig_mckinney" and Lisa's would be "lisa_smith". Kris, your's will be under heather's name because that is where your blog is. If anyone is unsure what there name is just ask ;)
-- Finally, change the image names to your image names. Here the first image is titled "clay1.JPG". It is important that these be exactly what you named your image(s).
-- Please note, the rest of the text (& signs and all) should not change.
-- Once you are finished editing, save your txt file again and close the file.

-- STEP 3 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- Start your blog... remember to title it (similar at least) to what you named your .txt file.
-- Upload your images using the "UPLOAD FILE" button in the left navagation.
-- Select the "Show me the HTML" option.
-- Note, there is no need to create an image thumbnail anymore so skip that step.
-- Click the "Embedded Image" button.
-- You can view this code (for fun, yay!) and double check the name of your image... or click on the "Upload Another" button to do just that. To upload another image, repeat this step as many times as needed.
-- When you are finished uploading your images, you need to upload your .txt file, "Ceramic_Projects.txt" in this example. Click the "Upload Another" button again and repeat this step one more time, only select your .txt file this time instead of your image(s).
-- Once that file is finished uploading you can now click the "Close" button, you are done uploading.

-- STEP 4 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- Type out your opening paragraph in your new blog. Describe the photos, the weather, your socks... whatever.
-- When you are ready to display your images you'll need to type the following code (exactly) into your blog. Again, we will be editing the parts highlighted in yellow, but first lets type out the code. Please note, disregard any/all visual returns within lines of code here.. it just forced a line break due to size restraints.

-- Now it's time to edit the parts highlighted in yellow.
-- First, change Heather's name to yours. This is the same name you have already edited in the .txt file from before. Again for example, Steven's would be "steven_mckinney".
-- Finally, change the text file name featured in this example ("Ceramic_Projects.txt") to your text file name. Leave the rest of the code here untouched.

-- STEP 5 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- You are done with your multiple photos module.
-- Now you can either be totally done, or type additional text below the module.
-- Final note, when/if you try to preview your blog (by clicking the "Preview" button in your blog editor) you will not see any images. Don't worry, if you followed the instructions closely it will show up when you finally save/publish your blog entry.

Should anyone have any trouble at all, ask questions in the comments below - or e-mail Brian or Craig for help. We've got the editing part down so even if we need to quickly edit your post, it's easy for us to do after you do all the uploading leg work. SO, don't be afraid of it - keep posting.

ENJOY!

Hmmm... Your instructions seem good, but I didn't get it quite right*, eh?

I can try to debug (change order of entries, etc.) - but if you see obvious error let me know. Thanks.

*see Howdy Pilgrims entry.

I posted this on your blog as well, but so other people catch the comment:

You were almost there with the multiple photos post! For your text link you had [jeff_mckinney/Howdy_Pilgrims.txt] and just needed to add an additional "/" to the beginning of it, like so: [/jeff_mckinney/Howdy_Pilgrims.txt]. Basically that first slash tells it to look for your folder in the root directory everytime, so important for finding the proper file. Nice work!

Thanks a lot for the debug, Criag. At standard community IT service rates I owe you about $1000 now, right?

I've been resizing the photos from my camera (seemingly BIG files) to 17% (I think this prime number must have come from somewhere - maybe Brian's earlier help?) of their original size. That seemed to work well for the old (direct) pasting of pixs, but now they (and it appears, Mom's) are listed as cropped.

Would you/Brian suggest I drop down to 10% or 15% resizing in the future? Don't get sidetracked by this, because I can always just play around with sizes a bit, too....

This feature is really nice. Sorry it's still not very intuitive for me - I don't know enough about the language to do anything but parrot characters.

Would you mind pasting in the text code from your steps 2 and 4 above in a comment (i.e. as copyable text) some day?

Your code line examples are very helpful above, but I can't seem to directly copy/paste (then edit) the code text [it seems to be an image rather than text when I copy it]. If you could paste the relevant code as text in a posted comment here, I might be able to decrease my typo and code errors a bit. Thanks!

Helpful Hints:
I noticed when you attempt this you still copy/paste the code for each photo and for the file download into your blog. You should not do this. You just need to upload the photos and .txt file. Do not copy/paste the link into your blog.

The one line of code that Craig has in step 4 you have to enter - and, that does everything for you. Sign in and take a look at your last blog entry and you'll see that the only thing in it besides your intro is that one line of code. No image lings, no txt links.
