december stats
The stats are in for the month of December!
Craig takes over the leader spot from me this month with over 500 views! Dad showed the biggest improvement climbing the leader-board from a 13th position in November to 5th this month (Nice improvement!).
I can see already that the month of January will have quite a few leaderboard changes with the recent heavy activity from heather/lisa/adam .. keep it up!
Other interesting facts:
Unique Visitors (IPs) in December: 502
Heaviest Day of week: Tuesdays
Lightest Day of week: Fridays
Average Hits/Day: 43
Lightest Day: December 25th (go figure) .. only 8 hits
Heaviest Hour: 3-4pm (pacific time)
Lightest Hour: 1-2am (pacific time)
Top 5 Countries: USA, Japan, Poland, Great Britain, China

Do you have to officially sign in to get credit for a viewing? I'm on almost daily - do you have to officially have Mckinney blood to get in the rankings? If so, it seems that I have missed meeting this person named "help desk" at the past Mckinney functions?
Kris, Good Question. "Viewed" is a bit misleading - it's not actually the number of times each of us has viewed the website, it is the number of times our individual blogs have been viewed (by anyone). Every time someone clicks on Heather/Kris' Blog you get credit for 1 View.
So - you can up your count by posting more, since more people will click on your blog if you have more posts. I should/will include you with heather since you share a blog, and - before this month you posted more than heather!
"Help Desk" gets a 'view' every time someone reads something in the help desk section.
Well excuse me. Why can't I alter the outcome by clicking on my own blog hundreds of times to make it appear everyone else kept viewing it? Sounds evil, but just curious how you could prevent such a thing.
Yeah - clicking on your own blog hundreds of times would propel you to the top. Would be pretty obvious if someone did that, took 1st, but had only 1 post for the month.
I have a few friends who I've shown this site to so that would be another way to elevate stats - showing the site to your friends.
I dunno, views may not be a useful statistic, maybe a better one is simply how many times you post and make comments. That might be a better gauge of how much you use the tree. Maybe 5 points for a blog post and 1 point for each comment? Maybe I'll post that instead next month. Idea is just to encourage folks to blog!
Thanks for the answers Brian. Whether you include my name with Heather's or not is no big deal - I was just curious and poking some fun (if I don't see my name I know that I am on Team Heather). Like the stats and if it inspires more activity - cool!
Who said you could be on my team Kris??
lol ... yeah, heather rules the blogs so far this month. I want her on MY team!
I think i will change the 'leaderboard' going forward. 'views' is not necessarily a good gauge of activity. Any suggestions on scoring? It's all for fun ofcourse and just a fun way to encourage posts. Maybe 5pt per blog entry and 1 pt per comment? That's what I'll do unless someone has a better idea.
btw .. this comment counts as 1 point for me!!
"Why can't I alter the outcome by clicking on my own blog hundreds of times to make it appear everyone else kept viewing it?"
This is what the industry calls 'click fraud' and EXACTLY what kept advertisers away from the internet for so long. Luckily, now they have tracking software to tell who's doing the clicking. ;)
