Holly's Solo Practice Update

Holly is opening a solo dental practice, and given the current economy, we've been thinking about ways to reach new patients. Here is a mock-up of a flyer we've been working to design and mail. This flyer is to be sent to new home owners in area (using addresses from public domain real estate sales listings), perhaps selecting new arrivals to the town, who may be looking for a dentist. If any of you have thoughts about what does and doesn't work with its design for you, we're certainly open to your input to help us do a better job. Plus...your general ideas of what topics influence dentist choice by patients? These could be woven in here, or into website.

So you can read the text, just click on the image below and a larger version will open:

FYI-
This is what we were trying to do during design process,,,

Clean, serene blue-white design (office photo will also show the Blue & White, "gingerbread home" style building containing Holly's clinic).

Layout is proportioned to fold into thirds for mailing.

Business card site at upper right can have detachable card taped on - for Rolodex, wallet, etc.

Try to emphasize: office location, commitment to quality care, concept of dental home (continuity of care), economics, comfort, cosmetics, range of services provided, and dedication to responsive service culture.

Provider features: Holly's local roots plus experience elsewhere. Personalize with friendly photos of Holly, family, office.

Link to website for additional information, including testimonials from past patients (e.g. Holly's X-mas day office opening for emergency dental call, sheparding patients to ER care as needed, sensitivity to patient finances, attention to patient comfort, etc.)

I wont and will not go to a dentist unless they provide gas even for cavities. Unless I cann't eat or I have unbelievable pain with my teeth I am going to wait to goto dentist untill I can afford the gas. So if thats an option I would say in the flyer that you have options for pain free dentist work like nitrooxide or what ever gas they use

I think this is really well laid out, to the point and provides the public with a very well detailed explanation informing everyone. I've always thought location is a huge reason for why I choose a doctor and many times why I choose any establishment. So busy with day to day life thinking about taking extra time out of my schedule just to get to a location/doctor is a big turn off.

The photos are great. I know looking in the phone book/web at doctors listings can be so daunting. Who knows who these people are will they be friendly, accommodating, caring, and the location will it be comfortable, clean and nice? So that's great.

Patient's comments are great. Yahoo, Google and many other online resources will already have this going about your biz so you might as well provide it. I think word of mouth is one of the best when considering doctors. Any insight into how a practice is run and how patients are treated will get more people into the office. When I just went to my new eye doctor yesterday this was why I originally went there because a work colleague vouched for the doctor's office.

Also, I know my friend who is in NY right now doing his dentistry residency brought up something regarding certain dentists that won't see children. I wasn't sure if there is a large percent of dentists that choose to do this or not. I know as a grown up with no children sometimes it's nice to have a doctor's office that you know there wont be any children running around making the environment unpleasant or less relaxing. (Not that all do) On the other side friends with children tell me that there is nothing more pleasing than knowing that you have a great doctor that works well with your kids.

S: Not sure if you would want to specify what product you will have to help patients with pain. But I think Steven brings up a good point. Rachel's mom hates to go to the dentist. She makes a point to see her doctor in Santa Cruz even though she moved to Michigan. One reason being that he will sedate her completely where as she's had a difficult time finding doctors willing to do that near her home in Michigan. So not sure how you would put that. Maybe, "we offer a variety of procedural solutions that can accommodate each individual needs". But this could also open a Pandora's Box that you may not want inquires about. Not sure too -- do all dentist offer nitrous use, or put to sleep meds? I know these can sometimes be dangerous so doctors would rather not use unless necessary.

In the back of my mind (way back), I thought this might happen. You just can't keep a good dentist down. Key words like Family, Complete Care, Insurance Plan Acceptance, local connections, residency and professional credentials would seem to add credence to the flyer. . . and you have them all.

Consider joining the chamber of commerce or some such group, they thrive on member referrals & it could show a keen interest in the business community. My dentist just remodeled his waiting room & added a fountain in the corner which I thought gives a good calming effect. Maybe this is not possible, but I always like a phone reminder about my appt. since they are made so far in advance. Ofcourse you know all this stuff, but it just stands out to me. Onward & upward.

Great flyer .. i think you should consider scare tactics. This always gets me back to the dentist, they tell me how I am going to be eating baby food when I'm 45 since I won't have any teeth. And lately they've started adding this whole scare about dental heath being related to heart health .. how not flossing = death.

Maybe a tagline like .. "Dr. Holly = corn on the cob and heath". "no Dr. Holly = baby food and possible death". works i think

Other ideas:
1. Add a cartoon, everyone hates going to the dentist, add a funny cartoon to your flyer. maybe this one?

maybe this one?

2. Add a coupon to the flyer, I would think losing money on the first visit would be worth it. Once you have a client you'll have them for life .. just get them in the door with a big coupon, or say you'll cover anything that isn't covered by insurance, if no insurance .. 2nd kid free .. something to bring them to your door.

B: or they could say they will cover your looses with your bookie this month

I think this is a great initial round for you design. You have definitely hit all your key points, now I would recommend a little more different ways of breaking the text out so it seems less like one big block of text. The addition of your images should definitely help with that too, but try to break it out for quicker scanning would be nice.

If you guys need any help with brochure finishing touches or web layouts, I'm more than willing to provide my two cents. Sounds like a fun venture for the family - good luck!
