SwapORamaRama

We took part in a Swap-O-Rama-Rama DIY workshop at the MO History Museum, which was a tie in to the George Washington Carver exhibit there that we saw on MLK Day. The philosophy of the program is described on these links - which reminded us some of Craig and Grace, for the ingenuity and creativity involved.

It was started by Wendy Tremayne, and has a sponsorship from Singer, and the workshop in St L was great fun.

First, we brought clothes we were done with, and donated them for sorting to different tables.

Claire found a shirt with a nice style (like a French Sailor Sweater) but without a collar. A friendly volunteer helped repair the sweater.

A lace collar dressed it up.

The back gapped a bit, so we added some red buttons. Here is the final product while Claire plays piano with her friend.

Riley looked through the notions, and decided on a zippered punk look, which others at the event then copied, too.

We saw some of Claire's donated clothes being turned into creations by others. Everyone wins.

Sounds fun. Nice to get something new or new to you every once and a while.

What a great idea, and sweet way to spend a day. I think both Claire/Riley have a talent for creating cool clothing. I particularly like Riley's zipper/punk creation!!

A couple times a year shannon and I load up the car with clothes for goodwill (somehow we always have a big pile). This is a link to the place we donate to:

Brian, I don't understand...those clothes at the SPCA don't look like they will fit animals. What's up?

What a cool idea to recycle clothes and get people's imaginations involved. Nice job Claire and Riley.

This is a really great concept and I love what you guys came up with!

The DIY (do it yourself) network is a pretty good online resource for all home projects, including fashion:

Also, Megan Nicolay made her own business by taking old t-shirts and transforming them into one of a kind fashion tops. I think she has a book she sells with helpful 'tips & tricks' but you can see some of the concepts on her website:

Hi! Dad,
I can't wait for you to come back on Tuesday!

Love,
Claire

Hi Claire,
I miss you and Riley and Mom, too. Brian and Shanon's birds and reptiles are fabulous, and I'm having a grand time with my brothers. We played frisbee golf at a course yesterday, which was lots of fun. See you soon! -dad

Hi! Dad today you get home!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
Claire
