Portland Oregon - Cool in Summer
Where is it still cool in August, easy to get to from DFW airport? Portland, Oregon.
It was ONE HALF THE TEMPERATURE in PORTLAND, compared to DALLAS. Yikes.
A cool place, beyond the temperature, too, with: Mount Hood's snow, Ecola State Park's ocean and tide pools, great donuts at Voodoo's, Kennedy Elementary School hotel, Columbia RIver Gorge scenic route drive, Salmon jumping up past Bonneville Dam. Also a fun food cart scene with good, cheap, eats.
Don't want to bury you in text, if picture tells story better, but if you see a photo of interest and comment back, we'll elaborate or share logistics hints.

full stop. Is that bacon on that doughnut?!?
I love Portland .. were you there for a conference that extended into a family vacation? I've only been there once but the city is on my short list of spots to retire. Your awesome photos re-validates this choice .. wow, thanks for sharing!
Great family photo - everyone looks so happy.
Portland was great, although the amount of rain the other 9 months of the year might get me down.
Yup, that is bacon. Bacon-maple is my new PB&J. It's really tasty. Not only donuts, but also an ice cream flavor in Portland. Riley finally asked a Portlander, is bacon something special here? It was.
Thanks for keeping blog thread going. Good to connect.
Hi Holly and Jeff!
I was thinking about your guys and wondering what adventures you were off to. Looks like you are all terrific! Email anytime-I would love to hear all about Big Ole Texas! Ginny
Portland rocks! I've have a college friend who lives there and have made a few trips to see the city and the great outdoors. Looks like you hit great spots. Voodoo's (and the bacon-maple) has to be my favorite.
How did everyone do golfing?
I wasn't great at golfing myself, but I was one of the worst. Dad said,"but it was only your first time(said sympathetically)".
Speaking of bacon - check out Baconery:

Slick link, Craig. Unless one is a pig... in which case it's bad news.
