the earth on it's axes

1earth.jpg

We were in Adrian, Michigan for a surprise birthday party for Gerry's sister. While there she took us to a farmer who has a dairy farm. In his spare time he creates sculptures out of old farm metal objects for his "sculpture garden" . The earth is barbed wire and it sits on 2 axes. Representing the earth on its axis.

He has made several sculptures and all have a title that we have all heard like" between a rock and a hard place". His work was selected to be pictured in the Smithsonian.

Certainly a slice of Americana!

I love stuff like this .. the corn field in the background adds something to it i think. I wonder what his wife thinks of this hobby - at first she was probably like "you want to roll up barbed wire fence for what"? to make a new world? That you will rule? what?! please just go get the mail and take off your boots next time you come inside

There's a guy at work who I think is fabulous, who works in our machine shop area, that I think may be this sort, too. He stops by and shows me his self-produced holograms that he makes at home with an "extra" laser, knox gelatin and glass plates. That and his occasional reminder that once the grid goes down I'll wish I had a HAM radio makes me listen very closely to what he has to say. Thanks for the Americana, Mom.

WAY COOL, AND WAY WEIRD.

THIS GUYS NEEDS A TV SET, OR SOMETHING TO DO. :)
