I volunteer at the Getty Villa which is on the PCH for every Thursday afternoon as a greeter and every Monday mornings for school groups.. These were taken at the Getty Center during a Family Day. Over 7000 people attended. I volunteered to work a childrens feather hat table. The entertainers were really a hit! There is a good book written by J P Getty "As I See IT" as well as an interesting Web site. The big news is about the legal judgement about the Getty agreeing to give back 40 works from the antiquities collection to Italy. The Getty Villa is copied from an actual Villa still buried in Herculium and houses the antiquities located in the Palisades. It is one of the few museums that only houses art works of antiquities in the US. One of the photos shows a view of LA from the Center looking down over the 405. Both locations are beautiful and an excellent collection as well as visiting shows. Currently the Villa has works sent from the Hermitage in Russia.

Great pics mom - the Getty is lucky to have you as a volunteer. I read about the recent Italian antique controversy - it seems like that is a huge loss to the Getty. Maybe some of the loss is covered by insurance although I'm guessing not since the works were rumored to have been 'stolen'. I think I read one of their prime principals was fired as a result.

I like the 4th pic of Gerry .. he seems only slightly amused - perhaps it's a forced vexing by the fair princess?

Your pictures remind me of our time there when shannon/I still lived in LA. I think we had free passes or something from Anderson Consulting - it's a good memory for us.

Nice to hear about keep it up

Excellent pics - and looks like a great place to make a difference. Someone was telling me how few kids in urban Saint Louis had ever been into the Art Museum here, despite the fact that it's free and downtown. Your Getty work should touch a lot of people. Hey, is that you on the stilts, and if so, does your orthopedist know? I'd leave that history out on your next visit to him/her.

looks like great fun guys! really like your first pic, with the reflection.

Mom those were great. Rachel and I will have to come and join you for an upcoming event. I always have a great time whenever I can get to either of the Getty's. The architecture alone is so amazing. The stilted man looks like a character from Lion King or Cirque Du Sol.

The Getty does a great job getting not only schools but families who are unable to visit there. They have a fleet of buses and drivers that go out and bring in groups. For teachers they have training prior to a class's visit. For families they provide food along with site educators.

The return of the art to Italy will be a loss but in the agreement, the Getty will get loans from Italy so this is a plus. And for the art world it should make a statement that all works need ownership history so good are bought and sold legitimately. The Getty has been more involved since they are a very well endowed program.

Their family days are really fantastic! It is a beautiful and interesting place to volunteer!
