Riley's California visit
Riley's visit to California started off with an injury prior to the flight here! Wow! He fell on the slide at school and broke 3 bones in his foot. Thanks to Grampa Ron, his foot was casted and thanks to Holly the trip here was not cancelled. Cheers all around, especially to Riley! He did get special treatment with wheel chair service at the airports and we rented a wheel chair and ESPECIALLY at Disneyland, due to their approach to special curcimstances we were able to enter most rides in a special order thus getting more rides.
While driving to Disneyland we saw the Goodyear blimp fairly close up and teathered which was pretty exciting. Often for special sporting events VIPs get to ride over the activity.
The next 4 photos are of creatures we saw at the Aquarium. I don't know if Riley had a favorite but mine is always the display of jelly fish. Once on a cruise we actually saw a large cluster of jellyfish over our balconey swimming beside our ship for hours. They seem so gracefull....water performers but realize their sting is unpleasant!
The Tar Pits are shown next. Holly, Riley and Claire are standing in front of the area where bone cleaning and matching activities are performed. Many of the tools looked like dental tools but am not sure Holly has any interest in changing professions!?:) While on vacation she had to hear about Gerry's tooth problems....don't think professionals ever really escape but he appreciated her advice!
Then there are photos of Disneyland! Oh the magic lingers on. They have improved the submarine ride which was delightful,.....even some of the mermaides could be seen and the Tea Cups are still turning but It's a Small World is under construction to become more politically correct. We ate at the Rainforest cafe...It really rains every 30 minutes. Thanks to Rachel , our expert Disney Guide, we got the most out of our visit to the Kindgom.
We end our photo show of Riley's vist with Riley himself. A real trouper! His broken foot did not stop him! We did get special markers to sign his cast...the ones Grampa Ron recommended and his cast was decorated in style. Jeff had signed it foit with his redendition of himself....proud Dad that he is and should be!
On our last day, we decided to go to the beach and Riley decided since his wheel chair did not function well in the sand and he wanted to reach the surf, that he would get out of his wheel chair and make it to the waters edge.....in fact, I think he even got his toes wet! He did find sea weed that the surf brought in!
Well, maybe he has some things to add about his visit. Steven, Adam, Rachel, Gerry and I soooooo enjoyed it all! We saw some still active tar seeping into the top of grass areas in the tar pit areas and were careful not to get caught in it!
I think Riley enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and with some donations from the Bunny he bought some things to take home. A good experience in choice and money management.
Looking forward to being together for Craig and Grace's wedding and still glowing from the memories of the fun we had!

Thanks for the great pictures. Now I get to see some of the things Riley has enjoyed telling me about from this great trip west to see you in CA again. While I was on call I enjoyed thinking of all of you having fun together. Glad the last minute fracture didn't derail things, and thanks for being so accomodating. -J
