turning, turning, turning ...

NAMI

We took the NAMI Family to Family class and then took the instruction to teach the classes. Then it became time to teach the free 12 weeek class. You pretty much do all the preparation work yourself like find a place to hold classes, advertise, contact individuals to see if the class is appropriate for them. We ended up with 26 people all who live in the Palisades. The class is both corregraphed (sp?) as well as rather technical around brain chemistry and drugs. Gerry did the hard classes and I did the touchie feel and social services parts. Good balance!

Last evening was our last class so we invited everyone here for a dinner. I set up self serve in the kitchen which worked well in our smallish place. I had 8 in the dinning room and the rest on 3 card tables combined into one look like table. The dishwasher continues to run even after several loads last evening.

Turned out really a nice and very interesting group of people. We will have a "reunion " after the holidays as they want to stay connected. Gerry and I felt it was a good feeling to help others find connections for education and support.

Jeff, on the card tables I used the red Batil cloth you brought me for a Christmas cloths from Malaysia. Several people recognized it as batik and it looked really nice with square white plates.

This sounds like a very helpful program. Nice that you are able to help others, and to share ideas and experiences with each other. 26 people on the Palisades: what a turnout. Perhaps this is an illustration of how prevalent these conditions are. Nice that people are more open about things now - it seems unfair that so many people used to have to go without a broader network of information and insight.
