Adventure around Perth before boarding
1. Perth, Australia was really nice. They have a beautiful Bell Tower, A huge Farris Wheel (like in London) as well as a beautiful Park called Kings Park. Jeff - the park reminded me of the one in St Louis....several sculptures in wather pool with rather elaborate fountains. It overlooks the Indian Ocean.
We took a day trip to the Pinnacles in the dessert which resembles a moon landscape. It was some distance outside of Perth. The Pinnacles are large limestone rocks and how they were formed is sort of complex but impressive and cover a rather large area near the sea. We saw white sand dunes as well as amazing fields of exotic flowers which are harvested and dried for shipment all over the world. On this trip we have a cold lobster and crayfish lunch which was delicious and very pretty.
2. The next day we went on a Ferry to an Island called Rottnest. It was small but had a wonderful relaxing feeling. Brian ...wish we had known to stay there but the amounft of luggage would have made that some of a challenge. This Island is famous for a small rat like animal called a Quokka. They are nocternal and are protected under the wildlife conservation at of 1950. Because of there protected status between 8000 and 12000 live on the island. The original Aboriginal people named it. It looks very similar to a Wallaby. Needless to say I have plenty of photos of the little creatures.
3.next on to the Port located in Fremantel and $50.00 cab ride away

Glad you got to Rottnest .. were you able to cycle around the island? We thought the main town was quaint and had some great restaurants but really enjoyed the less populated coastline.
This sounds like an interesting place. Nice to hear of your adventures.
I bet the plant and animal life is astounding. Did you see one of these?
