Another Project

I am really proud of this assignment I created.

Here is the assignment guidelines:

By Monday, March 23, 2009, create three logo versions for a new company of your choice (you must make up a company and not use an existing one). However, the company you choose must totally contradict your personal belief system and moral principles. For example, if you are a radical environmentalist, you might do a logo for a large industrial company notorious for recklessly polluting the environment. Before designing, you must first perform in-depth comparative research on at least three similar companies. Research can be done via the Internet, books/magazines, personal interviews, etc. In order to create the most effective logo designs possible, extensive conceptual exploration and development using thumbnail sketches should be done.

Three required logo versions:

1. Descriptive mark - Uses realistic or abstract visual imagery relating to the clients products or services
2. Symbolic mark - Uses symbolic and abstract representations of type and/or objects
3. Typographic mark - Uses a more typographic approach in conjunction with other graphic elements

Deliverables for each logo version:

- Documented research, assimilation, and extraction process.

- Five thumbnail sketches for each logo category. Scan and submit your drawings.

- Three final logo design versions. You may either scan the final versions of your drawings or render the logos using graphic design software.

Below is a link for the pdf file it contains a lot of images and data so I couldn't upload each one. A pdf is easier, also everyone can download and view pdf files for free, so it should work on all your computers.

This is really cool - i like how the assignment made you do research and then sketch out some ideas before finalizing your designs.

Thought it was an interesting choice in topic as well .. energy drinks. Per the assignment I take it you are 'anti' energy drinks. I am too .. anything that artificially give you a buzz seems reckless, particularly since these companies largely target kids.

You final designs were great, i like the symbol mark the best. To me it looks both like a tiger eye and the human heart .. which is a nice effect.

Interesting project - sort of like what I think happens in Law School where one has to argue either/both sides of a case.

The pdf format works very well (I downloaded a free pdf converter recently, and like it a lot), and I like your final design. Interesting to see the rough sketches that lead up to that.

We've been getting into Tigers Eye gem stones here, as part of our rock polishing adventures. Among the specimens that are the most interesting (particularly the way the refract(?) light) are the Tigers Eyes. Incorporating that effect would be cool, but I have no idea how it could work in practice. But, those drinks already spend way more on the can than the contents, so maybe funky packaging makes economic sense for a new product seeking a niche.

Take care. Great seeing you at Brian and Shannons!
