Here is an assignment where we only used type to design a dvd cover of our choosing. Its a Advanced type class. My first submission was totally not given credit, so this is my final. I will post the comments on it when I receive them.
I like your take on type treatments. You should try to put a little more time in on making more of a background (subtle or not) to help give your work a more finished appearance.
It's always helpful to study some real/current examples of products for what you are designing. Make some lists of things you like and don't like - and what graphic elements could possibly convince you (in this case) to watch the movie.
